My Father, The Star Sailor came into creation as my Piano 4 final at the Osher School Of Music. With Cassie Thomas, I wanted to write a piece that we could both play. The title itself comes from the Latin root words for the term astronaut. Astronaut is made up of 2 words; Astron meaning stars and nautes meaning sailor. This discovery floored me and with my instrumentation in mind, I began to write. I immediately associated it with my journey through grief and acceptance. This piece is dedicated to my late father Randall Keith Miller and all of those who held me up when my world was crashing down.
We never lose anybody, they simply sail the stars
